Showbiz News on TV

Watching showbiz stuff on the news has got me thinking why do we have this stuff on TV?

I think it’s fair enough that we have some showbiz news on TV but the current way we have it leaves a lot to be desired.

Showbiz news is supposed to be exactly that NEWS. The news part appears to be missing instead what we get in its place is a slot on TV for the promotion of whatever film/album/book etc. that the major companies in each area are trying to flog to us each day. The end result is just shameless product promotion

News is supposed to be people reporting unbiased facts to us. That is actually in the rules of broadcasting and for the news part of the shows that happens but then along comes the showbiz stuff and the rules get thrown out the window we get to watch movie trailers and so called reporters kissing the backsides of the celebs they “interview” are these segments on news shows paid for by the companies involved or just put on as a pathetic attempt to draw ratings?

National and regional news bulletins have this stuff on now. Sky News for example sacrifice time that can be spent discussing news to promote albums and films and ITV Anglia has it’s head so far up Simon Cowell’s backside they can probably see out of his mouth with all the X Factor rubbish they have on and the presenters/reporters “marking out” every time the latest average karaoke singer makes an appearance.   When I tune in I want to see news not movie trailers there are more than enough shows on TV promoting this stuff already without having it on the news as well If I want to see product placement I will watch the adverts.

The One Show is a good example of a normal show promoting this rubbish everyday someone appears on the show trying to flog whatever it is they are involved in. We get the exact same responses from the presenters about the product each time as well “I went to see your film earlier it was great” “I read your book earlier couldn’t put it down fantastic read” etc. etc. stop lying to us there isn’t enough time in the year for you to read all the books and see the films you claimed to have done. All these presenters are doing is reading someone else’s words most of the time much like happened on “Film (insert year here)” when Jonathan Ross used to sit in front of an autocue and read other peoples reviews of films written for him.

Some of these people should be working for the film/record companies with all the hyperbole they come up with as everything that appears on these shows is always wonderful no one ever has an average album or a mediocre book to promote despite the fact that a lot of the people appearing haven’t been relevant in the business for over 25 years.

You can also guarantee that whoever is on The One Show will also be on about 3-4 other shows over 2-3 days the stars even do the shows in the same order (so easy to tell the same person books up everyone’s appearances).

With stuff like this happening it’s no wonder the entertainment industry is in such a mess these days. At least 2 complete generations of music have been missed by the media as they are to busy kissing the backsides of everyone who was good 30 years ago.
