BBC DQF Blog

My latest blog is on the BBC DQF proposals and can be read here. It is based on what I have submitted as part of the consultation. if you haven’t done so I urge you to visit the DQF site here then read the proposals via the web based forms or by e-mail. The blog sounds very anti BBC because I care about the quality of the output and want it improved. There’s no point in writing about what’s good in it as it’s about sorting out the areas that don’t provide good quality and/or value for money. Areas that are good should be left well alone.

I’ve also supplied the BBC trust with a list of failing staff both on and off screen that I know of who’s continued employment is unacceptable if they truly believe in DQF if they stay then I know DQF is a complete joke.

Alex Dolan

I thought I would write something about Alex after someone found my blog with the following search “alex dolan weather presenter makes loads of mistakes” bit of a strange thing to search for but very true. 6-9 months ago Alex was making great progress with her weather presenting I’m already on record as saying she was one of the best of the new batch of presenters in the last couple of years. Sadly the progress has halted and since then all she has done is go backwards one evening I caught most of her evening forecast and counted 9 mistakes with what she was saying in less than 2 minutes. This level of errors is quite simply unacceptable for anyone working on TV the reason for the mistakes is very clear as well she does not understand what she is talking about. people who are knowledgeable about a subject don’t keep pausing and using words like um and er all the time.

I really like Alex as a presenter but it’s time she got her act together otherwise let someone else do the job.

I’ve still ended up being very busy the last few weeks and haven’t managed to write anything new. At the moment I am trying to share my thoughts with a broadcaster more directly so I may post something from that depending on what happens.

Sky News Sunrise and Libya

As normal today with Sky News whenever there is a big story on everything on Sunrise just gets swept aside to show the same old stuff about the top story over and over again. A few weather forecasts did manage to make their way into the show but there was only 1 news story and no sport at all. come 7:22am though we have this

no news, sport or anything else on the show but we have Nazaneen appearing to tell us vital nuggets of information like this. An hour later it gets played again!

this just sums up Sky News the shows content is determined mainly by who pays the most to put something on the show. I’m guessing Dial a Flight must pay more than Qatar Airways for their slot considering forecasts were removed but the waste of airtime destination reports remained on. to add insult to injury these things aren’t even new here is the very same destination report as last done by Nazaneen on the 30th of April.

I’ suspect Libya wouldn’t make it to the news if Sky were paid more to put something else on the show. there must be plenty going on in the world we are not being told about and why does Libya need so much coverage? sure it’s important but what impact does it have on the daily lives of viewers? probably none whatsoever for most people while the stories that do affect people just get brushed aside and forgotten about as normal for the reason that they don’t make sky enough money. Libya is a ratings winner and as we all know ratings equal more advertising revenue. This channel is driven purely by money with no regard for the content of the show.

Sky News is nothing more than an advertising channel pretending to be News selling airtime to the highest bidder.  Whoever is in charge of this sham is an insult to TV news and has no place in the news business.
